Crocheted Children's Hat

Here is my first crocheted hat!  I made a rectangle 39 chains wide and 36 double crochet rows.  Then I stitched the two shorter ends closed.  On one end of the tube I created, I wove yarn around the edge and then pulled it tight to make the top.  I finished it with a pom pom on top.  This is for my son Caleb.  I'm working on a pair of mittens for him also.  My husband would also like a hat (without the pom pom), and I'd like to make my daughter a hat and mittens.
